If you don't like TV you can probably skip off elsewhere for this one, this if for people who love it to their core, like me. I got it here, so many thanks to candlewaxdreams.
I'm not certain I agree with this being the actual 50 greatest TV shows of all time but I'm willing to work with it.
Empire Magazine has revealed its list of the "50 Greatest TV Shows" ever. So, of course, LJ-ers have leapt upon the opportunity and made it into a meme.
1. Bold the shows you've watched every episode of
2. Italicize the shows you've seen at least one episode of
3. Post your answers
50. Quantum Leap
49. Prison Break
48. Veronica Mars
47. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
46. Sex & The City
45. Farscape
44. Cracker
43. Star Trek
42. Only Fools and Horses - what is this?
41. Band of Brothers
40. Life on Mars - I recognize the name of this but also have no idea what it is.
39. Monty Python's Flying Circus
38. Curb Your Enthusiasm
37. Star Trek: The Next Generation
36. Father Ted
35. Alias
34. Frasier
33. CSI: Las Vegas
32. Babylon 5
31. Deadwood
30. Dexter
29. ER
28. Fawlty Towers
27. Six Feet Under
26. Red Dwarf - I feel like I should see this but I'm not a fan of Mr. Bean and I can't get past the fact that Rowan Atkinson does both.
25. Futurama
24. Twin Peaks
23. The Office UK - I watched the whole bloody first season and just did not get the hype. It's why I haven't watched any of the US version, though I'm told I'm totally missing out.
22. The Shield - I still love you Lem!
21. Angel
20. Blackadder
19. Scrubs
18. Arrested Development
17. South Park - It's possible I've seen a whole episode of this but I didn't like it. If I saw the original "Christmas Card" video they did that launched the series, does that count?
16. Doctor Who (new version)
15. Heroes
14. Firefly
13. Battlestar Galactica (new version)
12. Family Guy
11. Seinfeld - I may have seen a whole episode of this, too, it's pretty hard to escape but I'm one of the few that was not turned loose by any part of this. Come to think of it I think I did see the whole ep where Elaine dances stupidly. I'm still not italicizing.
10. Spaced - again, huh?
09. The X-Files - And the movie too.
08. The Wire - I can't wait for Season 5 to come out on DVD so I can be up to date.
07. Friends
06. 24
05. Lost
04. The West Wing - In my estimation I've seen all of these. I've seen all of them up to the point where Sorkin left the show so I've seen all the real ones.
03. The Sopranos - Saw the whole first season. Can't decide if I'll go back and try for the rest of the series.
02. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - LOVE!!!!
01. The Simpsons - Blick.

hey! Where's GG?
ReplyDeleteYou didn't watch all of Friends!?
I agree about West Wing.
"Only Fools and Horses" and "Life on Mars" are both British shows. I think the former was voted best show evah by the British public. Never seen it so I don't know why. I haven't seen the latter either, but I hear it's really good.
ReplyDeleteRed Dwarf is the show where the main character is frozen cryogenically and wakes up 5 million years in the future (or something like that). Rowan Atkinson isn't in it, though I agree with your assesment. I love Rowan Atkinson (have you seen his HBO special from ages ago?) but really can't stand Bean.
I'm soooo going to do this meme. It's all I have the energy for right now, and I am a huge TV fan!
Scrubs is an amazing show. Not only is it funny but every episode has a pretty deep meaning too. If you pay attention. I also love Entourage. Most of the shows fans are, like me, male but I am aware of some females who enjoy it too.
ReplyDeleteCool blog!
Check me out at:

Although some of my favorite shows are in the list, I have to say that it is the lamest list of 50 greatest TV shows ever ever!
ReplyDeleteMiflohny, I kind of agree. Make us a better list, wouldja?
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Empire magazine, and if this list represents the magazine's quality, I'll never read it.
ReplyDeleteHill Street Blues? Law and Order? NYPD Blue? I don't hold those out as necessarily great in some cosmic sense, but how did crap like Quantum Creep get on there?
I've seen all of: SATC, Farscape, Frasier, Deadwood, Futurama, Angel, Doctor Who, X-Files, Sopranos, and Buffy.
ReplyDeleteSpaced is great. It's a British comedy with Simon Pegg.
ChemE and I were talking and we think that this was probably a list made by poll and the poll was probably taken by people who were too young to know a lot of the really huge groundbreaking shows. This list has a lot of shows that are known to have a cult following so it seems like a specialty group who voted.
ReplyDeleteAs suzanne notes, Rowan Atkinson was not in Red Dwarf. He was in Blackadder though, which may be what you're thinking of. For what it's worth, I don't like Mr. Bean but I love the crap out of Blackadder. He's a different (related) character in each season. Start with Blackadder II, as season 1 is somewhat weak.
ReplyDeleteRed Dwarf I'm sort of in the middle on.
