Nearly Wordless Wednesday: Classical Edition

No offense to her. We are, none of us, holding a candle to Billy Shakes.

  1. I'm really bothered by my use of commas in that second sentence. They're entirely wrong, aren't they?

  2. I don't think they are wrong. I tried it with a semi colon instead of the first comma, but I think two commas is right.

    Chili? O'Mama?

BTW, Love the post. As much as I enjoyed the quick easy read of the Twilight Saga, it is indeed NO Billy Shakes. Also this: Billy Shakes is my new favorite name.

  3. The thing is that now they make that clause like a parenthetical but if you take out the parenthetical the sentence doesn't say what I meant it to say. So I'm dubious about the commas. I think they maybe shouldn't be there at all, but if they aren't there at all then it's like one long runon word which doesn't work either.

I was going to go with the BShakes version but somehow Billy Shakes feels better.

  4. In that case, perhaps this:

We are not, any of us, holding a candle to Billy Shakes.

    What do you think?

  5. See? I think you figured it out. That seems right to me. Oops. Better luck to me BEFORE the publish button next time.

  6. Ah, well. We love you with or without commas!
