I am starting this a little before midnight, the chime that will turn it into MARATHON DAY here in New York. I can't see clearly across the street but I'm pretty sure that in a certain apartment a certain blogger is fast asleep, or at least trying to be.
Bethany aka Sanemom aka herm007 is running the ING New York City Marathon tomorrow. In all honesty I have mixed feelings about the running of marathons but, because I am a bundle of contradictions, I just love to watch this marathon and my love gets kicked up a notch (or four) when people I care about it are running.
Bethany will be departing Staten Island at 10:10 Sunday morning, though I'm sure she has to arrive at the corral at about the crack of dawn. Keeping in mind that the crack of dawn happens around 7am at this time of year. She's lucky, there's a whole extra hour to this long night. Well, I hope she's lucky and is sleeping away, I suppose it could be a curse to someone who can't sleep and has to wait a whole extra hour. I'm going to think good, sleepy thoughts for her.
Tomorrow morning I'll get up and gather myself and walk the dog the long way around to be on the course by about 9:45 to see the elite women runners pass by. And I'll hang out on the left side of the track, aligning myself with Bethany's family so I can work to take a good photo of her doing this enormous thing for which she's been training so long.
Run your own race, my friend. I'll see you soon.

I have heard so much about the NY marathon. My stepmother did it for her 50th birthday, after tackling cancer the first time.
ReplyDeleteI wish your friend light feet and the time she needs.
Thank you so much! I love the shots you captured, and seeing a few friendly faces on Lafayette was by FAR the highlight of the day :). Sleepy thoughts appreciated, though I didn't manage to fall asleep till almost 2am ... jitters will do that to you! Assuaging my pains with wine tonight, and so VERY glad it's over!
