This morning I met a woman walking in the park without a dog. She liked Eddie so she struck up a conversation with me. She was, essentially, shopping for the dog she would get for herself when she retired. Just before we parted she told me about a show she'd seen on Animal Planet that said that when a dog lies down with you and lays its head on your chest, over your heart, it means, "I love you."
I didn't have the heart to tell her I'd figured that out on my own. She'll understand soon enough.

ReplyDeleteI've been a dog person my whole life, and there's still something special when my current puppy lays her head in my lap and looks up at me... she does it most nights, but it never fails to have an impact on me.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should get to have that feeling, and every dog should have a mommy or daddy who appreciates it.
Sam does that to me. I think it gets him closer to whatever snack I've got, but I'll take it to mean love. It's all I can do not to call dibs on one of Mindi's puppies.
