Advantageous

If, at about midnight on a painfully average Friday night, you were heading out to walk the dog in your jammies-equivalent (and truth be told you'd been in said equivalent since about 5 that evening) and you were joined by a fellow inhabitant of the building, a mother of 2 kids under the age of 5, also on her way out, and she was in full makeup, a ruffly turquoise skirt and a crocheted shawl, carrying a cane and a bright straw bag and she slipped into a waiting cab and sped off into the night you might think that you weren't taking full advantage of all this glorious city has to offer.

Yeah, that wonderful thing called "night life." She'll probably get drunked up, or drugged up, or both, wind up in a strange bed, wake up not remembering if in fact she had sex with someone she didn't know, and whether if, in a moment of drunken passion, precautions had been taken. She'll crawl out of the rack, put on her frilly night clothes, and wander out into the street, trying to figure out what street it is, and how to get home.

    You are indeed missing out.

  4. Gerry, that's a whole lot of judgement for one little blog comment. I'm pretty sure I didn't write that angle into my description.

Gert, I'm off to meet up with Chrome and go to a friend's 40th right now!

I hope your neighbor had fun - your description of seeing her had none of the negativity or seediness Gerry implied - it just wasn't your night for a night out, but you take a lot of advantage of all this city has to offer, so don't feel bad. Though I completely understand that feeling - ya can't control when it'll bite ya - just remember all the fun, exciting nights you do have! A lot more than most, and probably more than your neighbor, seeing as she has 2 small kids.

Just my lurid imagination at work. I don't mean I really think anyone going out at midnight dressed as your neighbor was, is looking for cheap thrills.

You know, us out in the provinces think it is party, party, party in NYC.
