NWW: Stuff And Things
I went to an exhibit at MoMA last month that was very important to me. I have been trying to write about it and I will publish my thoughts at some point but until then go look at the set of photos I uploaded.

The styrofoam containers made me well up. When my PaPaw went to a nursing home, we cleaned out his little tiny studio apartment and found, maybe...4000 styrofoam coffee cups all stacked up and hundreds of neatly folded sheets of aluminum foil.
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart and makes me want to go home and toss the almost-empty bottle of conditioner in my tub.
You will learn more about me than you ever probably wanted to know when I start to write about this. I am descended from generations just like your Paw Paw. I am honestly frightened.
ReplyDeleteWriting about it....acknowledging that we come from these genes, it's healthy, I think. I find that I am predisposed to not want to throw things away. My mom keeps things, but not like these photos. Just random things, not tens or hundreds of random things. I keep less than she does, though still too much.
ReplyDeleteIt is scary.
I'm sorry I missed this show.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that EL Doctorow's new novel is a fictional account of the Collyer brothers?
I did. I read a review of it recently. Looking forward to reading it.
ReplyDeleteJust finished looking at the photo set. My heart lurches and my stomach does flip-flops because I am also descended from this stock...
ReplyDeleteAll we can do is share and hope for the best, right Annie? Sigh. Any time you need to talk about it I'm your gal.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kizz. Not sure what to say right now, other than I am aware of my family history and it frightens me.
