I've uploaded all the pictures I have of Eddie. There's one in there for size comparison. He's been sitting on my lap while I do it, nearly asleep. It's been a long day of park and dogs and people and new leash (courtesy of Carmencita and Alita) and vet (13.2 lbs., heart worm negative, tartar on his teeth, no ear problems and a squirmy, venomous hatred of being scrutinized) and lots of vaccinations. He's got an appointment for neutering on Tuesday. I know that I have to remember that this one thing won't solve everything but I do feel as though we won't solve anything until it's done.
I had forgotten how free strangers are with their declarations and advice. I've been told how to treat him, what to teach him, what kind of dog he is, his age and (that perennial favorite) that neutering is a sign that one simply isn't being responsible with one's training techniques. On the up side I haven't given anyone a fat lip yet.
I think I'll start wearing a sandwich board. The front will have huge letters and it will say, "DISCLAIMER: I'm not really a small dog person, he just showed up." The back will be longer, "If I know you then I welcome and require your assistance and advice. If we're strangers you need to shut your fucking pie hole."

GOT IT! I have an idea of how big he is now. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIsn't one just a "dog person"? I wasn't aware that there were distinctions between "small dog person" and "big dog person," though I can see how there could be. I'm more of a "whatever the Universe sends me" kind of person (though only for cats, friends, and children; I know I'm much too lazy (and averse to being out in the cold and the wet) to invite a dog into my life).
He looks great. Bigger than Chris and Heidi's rescued chihuahuas. I always thought I was a big dog person until I met them. Now I realize I am a dog person. Dogs act like dogs, no matter that they might be the size of cats.
ReplyDelete1. He's totally puggle from the ass. :)
ReplyDelete2. I totally get what you mean. I was walking my pack the other day and thought "I am a lab person... what's the world coming to that I have a greyhound and a beagle?!"
3. I feel like Casey on Sports Night, but at least I did my multipart response in order.
4. Chili, you're clearly not a dog person. :)
5. And not neutering is simply not being responsible. Period.
ReplyDeleteI think you should just say "shut your fucking pie hole" anyway. He's cute. I would like to meet him.
ReplyDeleteAuntie, he's much more portable. I suspect you'll be able to meet him.
ReplyDeleteHaving had large (80 lb) dogs for most of my time, even having a slightly smaller (55 -60) dog is kind of a relief - so much easier to control him.
ReplyDeletehe's really cute!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, he's Mallow-sized!
